Personal Management and Leadership Skills Organizational Goals

Question: Describe about the Personal Management and Leadership Skills for Organizational Goals. Answer: Introduction: The following study is developed in context to the importance of leadership and management skills to achieve the organizational goals. The importance of personal development is also considered very high as personal development ultimately results into the organizational development. If an individual needs to elevate to the designation of a leader or manager, there are several skills that are necessary to be developed to successfully play the role of a leader. These skills can be developed by various means such as training programs and events, observations, self assessment etc (Gentry et al. 2008). Also it has been documented that why personal development is important while becoming a leader. The study signifies the importance and development of the skills for becoming leader or manager of any organization. Impact of organizational objectives, values and culture on the leadership and management role: The designation of a leader comes along with numerous responsibilities and thoughtfulness for the success of the organization. An approach towards the role of a leader needs a deep understanding of the objectives and goals developed by the organization, the values and ethics of the organization and the structure or methodology the company has adopted (Tedstone, 2008). It is very important for a person to know how to lead a company or a group of certain people. All the organizations follow a pre built structure and a set of objectives that are followed by each individual. The leaders are aimed to follow the same structure with different strategies and ideas. The more the leader is familiar with the organizational structure and culture, the more easily it gets for the leader to develop various strategies by analyzing and improving the previous techniques (Oshinubi, 2007). The leaders are the backbone of the management that provide motivation and influence the employees to give their best and develop profitable strategies for the company while sustaining the progress. Also this is a very basic reason why companies appoint the experienced candidates of the organization to higher positions and designations. As these employees working in the organization would be highly aware with the structure of the company they would be able to understand and follow the responsibilities of the designation of the leader very efficiently. As an example, Tim Cook, the current CEO of Apple Inc, was previously the chief operating officer of the company and is associated to Apple since 18 years (Butler Reese, 1991). From the designation of senior vice president to the CEO, Tim has been promoted to various positions by considering his ability to understand and manage the organizational objectives and mission. Leadership and management skills required to support the achievement of organizational objectives: There are several skills that differentiate the leaders from the employees. These skills are niche, rare and prominent. The most important skill that makes the leaders stand out is the skill of listening and analyzing the matter without any undivided attention. A deep analysis of any situation or problem can explore the defects, problems and can identify the possible solutions and ways to rectify the situation(Oshinubi, 2007). The other skill that is considered as an important aspect for analyzing the organizational performance is measuring and evaluating the change. Leaders pout a lot of efforts while planning and developing the objectives and strategies for the company. For optimizing and enhancing the results and impact of these changes, it is very important to measure the input given and the outcomes that are achieved by the change. By evaluating and monitoring the inputs and the outcomes, the areas that need more focus and the areas which are highly profitable can be identified (Odusami, 2002). Changing the required structure would generate more profitable outcomes. Another quality and skill of the leader is the pursuit of ethics and morals. The leader must possess some ethics which must be followed robustly by each individual of the organization. Ethics make the leader more strong, punctual and effective. Communication is also considered as a necessary skill for impactful leadership. Communication process does bring an organization together and is thus a very important skill for the leaders to possess. Effective communication with the peers and the employees would enhance the ideas and strategies while generating effective results. Another skill is collaboration of the entire team or group of people in the organization towards a single goal. For achievement of any goal it is very important to guide the entire team towards a single goal and put the efforts for achieving the goal (Nanus, 1989). Finance also comes as a very important aspect. While developing new methodologies and strategies, it is very important to decide a complete budget and expenditures. A bad inventory would lead to adverse consequences in terms of financial aspects. Critical thinking towards the methodology and structure of the organization also plays an important role in improving the working of the organization. Thus these are the skills that every leader must possess (Bass, 1990). Personal leadership and management skills and to support the achievement of organizational objectives: Personal development is required to carry the responsibility to make an organization successful. Leaders justify their designation when they are able to lead the group or team efficiently. A leader is able to successfully communicate and bond with the team members and achieve the goal altogether by using the personal management skills. A leader has to keep learning and developing with time (Gentry Sosik, 2010). Personal development is very important as if the leader himself f is not proficient and updated with his work; it would not be possible for the leader to lead and guide the team properly. Employees work for the simple targets assigned to them by the organization while the leaders work to collectively achieve the objectives and goals of the company. The team members are subjected to learn from the leaders and thus it is very important for the leader to stay updated and knowledgeable. If the leader is developed personally then the team can get opportunities to learn. Thus personal development is needed to develop the organization (Yukl, 2006). Opportunities for the development of leadership and management skills: As an individual of any organization there are several opportunities or areas where a leader can develop and learn. The leadership skills can be developed by constantly monitoring and evaluating self performance. Organizations conduct various training programs for the leaders. Through these training sessions one can develop the leadership skills. Monitoring and evaluating self performance is a very efficient and important method to develop skills. By self evaluation, one can understand and identify the strengths and weaknesses of oneself and can improve it. Not only self evaluation but the leaders can consider feedbacks of the peer and friends for the assessment (Yukl, 2006). The higher authorities previously who have been through the designation of leader can better evaluate and give guidance to the leaders. Thus the feedback and suggestions of the management and higher authorities are very beneficial in developing the leadership skills. Also there are numerous books and articles available on leadership and management. These books and articles provide proven tactics and efficient ways to develop as a leader. Considering the signified methods of the previous leaders would help in understanding the roles and responsibilities of a leader and successfully implementing them. There are examples of people who developed from workers and employees of the company to the managers and owners of the company. The biographies and journals on such legendary people can also be utilized to develop the manage skills. This would help in implementing the theoretical aspects in the real life. There are various mediums like television, internet, books, journal etc from where a lot of knowledge regarding development of skills can be gained. Personal development plan to develop leadership and management skills: A personal development plan to improve the leadership and management skills includes the skills identified above for effective leadership. The plan would focus on developing the communication skills, the skill to evaluate and monitor the inputs and the outcomes, skills to analyze the situation and problems efficiently and the skill to learn from the past experiences. These skills can be developed by attending some training programs conducted for leaders (Mintzberg ,1985). By participating in such events and programs, the leaders can learn new techniques and fundamentals to become impactful leaders. For example, attending the communication improvement programs would help the leaders understand on presenting the ideas and plans in such a way that each individual listening to the plan can get a complete idea and motive of the presentation. It would also help the presenter to learn the techniques through which they can present the idea with clear goals and objectives. Personal emulation must be carried out to assess self performance on timely bases. This would help in exploring the potential of one. Managing the personal development of leadership and management skills It is vital to go through the main areas that are used in the plan as far as implementation of the plan is concerned. The plan describes that it may take arounf two years for implementation and completion whereas, all the main objectives must be highly covered under this time period. What is mainly required in the implementation of plan is the democratic type of leadership skills and the communication skills with certain negotiations. More than a year it may take when developing the democratic leadership skills is mentioned. As well as increasing the knowledge regarding the topic there are several studies that may be carried out within two years of personal development plan. as per the plan, it is highly important to divide the work according to mentioned objectives and the team work needed to fulfill regarding the decision making skills too. This mainly supports the democratic leadership style and maintains high standard decision making process as an ability to reach to the given ob jectives. This may help the managers to get an idea so far as possible for the team members. As per the plan this may again be helpful to support and trust the team members and a better chance is given to them while making decisions. Team development is observed with this strategy and the work gets easier as far as development plan (Mintzberg, 1985). The second objective of the plan is mainly considered as far as the support that helps to largely increase the negotiations and the manager have an opportunity to learn from the experience. The training programs that are conducted at this end are very important because this may help them to get knowledge and experience that may change the thingking pattern which may develop gradually. There are different types of negotiations that are learnt in this process. The training porgrmas may be conducted or arranged or particular type of courses may be learnt at this end. participating in this programs may be a helpful means in the personal development plan which is considered hereby (Mintzberg ,1985). There are training programs that are conducted for the very next objective that may called as improving the communication skills and English language. This will help to develop sound knowledge regarding vocabulary and writing skills. what helps to develop the communication skills is mainly the speaking and wrting in English as far as possible news and newsletters should be given importance. As far as considered, the development plan should be according to the process of development and this should be planned accordingly. The first step is to self evaluate and find while examining the weakness and the areas of improvements for development plan (Ferris et al, 2005). The second thing to consider is to develop the main targets of the plan and action plan has to be reviewed accordingly. The implementation plan has again a next stage of evaluation and finding the errors if any according to the development plan. Review of personal development plan against the original objectives The review suggests about the company objectives and this is to be achieved as per the target and standards set for making higher amount of profits by increasing the sales. Customer satisfaction is also required at this end which will make things go smoothly. What customers need has to be satisfied and look upon by the managers as per the requirement. Managers have to perform extremely to obtain the main objectives of the company and needs to perform well at this end. there are negotiations skills and leadership knowledge that are evenly examined in the personal development plan while communication skills are even considered. This may help to perform well as per the desired objectives (Yiu Cheung, 2006). At the time of development of objectives these objectives need to be evaluared as far as possible. since this may be a personal development plan, the self evaluation technique is mainly the weak point that is considered in this situation. Delveoping the objectives is the next procedure. The objectives are well matched with the personal obejctves and the company objectives that are set through the interconnection that is noted between them (Gentry Leslie, 2012). Evaluating the effectiveness of the personal development leadership and the management skills Evaluation is an effective means to consider the personal development plan and this may be useful as far as different techniques may be helpful at this end. democratic leadership skills and the evaluation of individual plan may be given to develop team work and may recognize whether development chance are available for the team members (Ramo, 2002). Decision making is again a very important matter that considers the group work and in a particular month the decision making process may be a helpful means to evaluate the effectiveness of decision making skills and communication skills. this may help to change the mindset and help to increase the leadership style which is proposed in the personal development plan. this may be applied in the team and can be observed that which plan goes well for the team members. There are negotiation skills that can be evaluated as far as finding what type of negotiations are available and what is the success factor. Each month this can be calculated and the training programs may be a beneficial job that may change through the team members (Torpman, 2004). Areas for the further development and update your personal development plan There are some weak areas that can be found after the evaluation stage which may help to improve the current personal development plan (Yiu Cheung, 2006). As such these problems may be considered as the issues which may be solved as per the time and the personal development plan needs to be modified. There are some weak areas that may be considered and this may be helpful while implementing the training programs and conducting such events that are possible for the organization. The time spent should be very well noticed and the personal development plan needs a hard core time so that more developing opportunities are observed by the managers (Boyatzis, 1998). Increasing the democratic type of leadership is the next means as an opportunity The case studies should be studied as far as different leadership styles are considered. Negotiation skills must be developed (Tedstone, 2008). New language should be studied which may help to develop communication skills Conclusion The main target here is to develop the personal plan that consist of leadership and management skills. It is widely discussed as far as importance is mentioned with the development plan and its implementation. The plan describes about its objectives and the company objectives which are mainly considered while implementation stage (Gentry et al, 2008). References: Gentry, W. A., Harris, L. S., Baker, B.
